Practical workshop on 44-tonne and Euro-modular vehicles

Yesterday, Tuesday 11 November, Spanish Shippers’ Council (SSC) – TRANSPRIME, together with Catalonia Logistics, organised a practical workshop at the Department of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition of the Government of Catalonia to address the introduction of 44-tonne and Euro-modular vehicles, with the aim of clarifying the operational, technical and regulatory implications derived from the recent entry into force of this historic measure.

The session was opened by Daniel Fernández Ruiz-Capillas, Deputy Director-General for Transport Planning and Sector Development, on behalf of the Directorate-General for Transport and Mobility.

Throughout the session, experts agreed on the importance of fostering cooperation between shippers, administrations and transport operators to ensure a smooth and efficient implementation of 44-tonne vehicles, based on clear criteria regarding costs, safety and sustainability.

Our Secretary General, Jordi Espín, stressed the importance of avoiding a “maritimisation” of road transport and called for a shared and transparent cost-structure model to ensure a fairer and more efficient logistics chain.

Other key topics addressed included European regulatory harmonisation, training of professional drivers, road safety, and the need for a common vision of industrial sustainability and competitiveness across the transport ecosystem.
